Residency / Yadichinma Ukoha-Kalu and Kadara Enyeasi

South Africa, August 2018

The 16/16 South African Residency was the first non-profit residency model focusing on physically connecting Nigeria and South Africa under the auspices of a greater cultural exchange.

Artists Kadara Enyeasi and Yadichinma Ukoha Kalu were encouraged to focus more primarily on experimentation with this new environment, drawing from their surroundings (whether familiar or not). This use of material from the new environment is the metaphorical manifestation of cultural exchange.

A sharing of ideas is furthermore stressed through a curated series of informal presentations with South African art and culture professionals, studio and gallery visits and numerous talks that were held both on and off site.
